2018-2019: Year in ReviewI finally made it to graduation! UC has been a whirlwind of experiences, emotions, and wonderful people. This year has been about extending my network and learning my own personal role in relationships. I have realized the importance of intentional friendship. It is one thought to be nice and open to everyone, but it is important to set up boundaries and recognize not everyone will be your friend. I have embraced my introverted nature and found solace in my quiet time. I feel in tune with my body and thought as well as in sync with my close friends and family. It has been an awesome journey!
My personal growth has been attributed to my professional growth and experiences I have been apart of. This year I worked as an intern for a mental health non profit 1N5. The namesake is from the fact that 1 in 5 individuals suffer from a mental illness. 1N5 works to implement research based programs into schools to improve mental health. As a student who has had my own personal struggles with mental health as well as passionate for holistic care that helps mind and body, I was ecstatic to work with this team. It also built my knowledge of fundraising and grant raising. I also began working as a bartender and cocktail server at the AC Upper Deck in Cincinnati. I have plenty of experience working and serving people but never in a restaurant/bar setting. I love the high energy, positivism of my coworkers. This job has helped me realize that my talents extend outside of STEM into more real world applications. It is great practice chatting customers up at the bar. I still have been continuing experiences here on campus. I am active with our Honors program, feminism organizations, and pre-professional organizations. I am sad to see my time with Learning Commons here at UC end. Graduation is bitter sweet. UC has given me so much. My confidence, passion, and talents have sky rocketed. I am aware of who I want to be in this world and changes I want to enact. I have surrounded myself with people who have eyes on my own personal success and growth. As a final note, I am so grateful and humbled by all the people who have come into my life during undergrad--be it a lecture professor, one of my students, or a coworker. I have such an appreciation now for experiences and realize everyone has something to teach. As always, go cats! |
